10 Essential Pieces of Equipment for Online Radio Newbies Looking to Become Broadcasting Pros

Are you a newcomer in the field of internet radio? Do you want to set up your professional studio? Do you want to have a flawless broadcasting experience? You will probably have to do away with your passable equipment that is just enough to send your voice to your listeners. If you want your radio show to come off as a professional one with top-notch voice quality, you will have to head to a store to buy some equipment.

Take a look at the ten critical pieces of equipment that you will need to become a broadcasting pro.

1. Computer

Let’s start with the obvious ones. You will need a computer with USB ports and a headphone jack to get your station on-air. This is the device inside which all the magic will happen.

2. Microphone

You will not need a mic if you are planning to play music tracks on your station. But if you want to broadcast live or talk with your audience, you will need a microphone. Don’t think that your computer’s built-in microphone will suffice because it has less output than desirable. Buying a microphone will be beneficial in the long run.

3. Headphones

Headphones are another must-have as they help you hear yourself and your shows, ensure seamless transitions and monitor audio levels. Standard earphones might be sufficient, but a headphone, which produces high and low frequencies, is preferable.

4. Mixer

You will need a mixing console if you are on your way to becoming a radio broadcaster. A mixer receives audio from different sources, mixes them, and outputs various channels in a consistent, controllable manner.

5. Boom arm

You can connect your microphone to the boom arm to easily swivel the mic in various positions as per your convenience.

6. Shock Mount

A shock mount will not only correctly hold your mic but will also provide maximum vibration reduction. By isolating your mic from mechanically transmitted noises, a shock mount will help you produce high-quality sound.

7. Pop Filter

A pop filter is a noise protection shield for your microphone. It will eliminate popping sounds that are caused by the mechanical impact of fast-moving air.

8. Microphone Muffler

A microphone muffler is a round piece of foam that fits over the mic and protects it from the surrounding noise that can reflect poorly in the audio that you record.

9. Microphone Processor

You can add a microphone processor device to clean up the signal and smooth out any remaining distortions.

10. Foam Soundproofing Panels

You can install foam soundproofing panels in your broadcast area to cancel out the ambient and background noises that you surely would not want in your recording.

These ten pieces complete your audio puzzle. It is crucial that you gather and rightly join all these pieces to get a crystal clear sound, which is your primary representation for your listeners.
